Les Chtites Maisons Solidaires project creates a system to improve the living conditions of people in substandard housing. The project was launched in the city of Lille, in northern France, and follows a simple model: citizens who have extra rooms in their homes rent them to tourists and travelers. The earnings generated are destined to improving the living conditions of people in substandard housing. The objective is to provide these people with opportunities to change the course of their lives and have a decent home, giving them a base from which to go out into society and fulfill their potential.
