The singer won first prize at the 57th edition of the Tenor Viñas International Contest held in January at the Gran Teatre de Liceu in Barcelona, performing Tchaikovsky’s Aria di Polina, and a piece from Wagner’s opera Rienzi.
The Tenor Viñas Contest, created in 1963, is one of the most important in the world which has showcased some of the greatest voices in opera. The Francesc Viñas first prize awarded by the Puig Foundation and the Gran Teatre de Liceu Foundation is endowed with €25,000 and a contract offered by the Gran Teatre del Liceu Foundation for the coming seasons. The award was presented by Ms. Sara Puig on behalf of the Puig Foundation and by Mr. Salvador Alemany, President of the Liceu.
564 singers from 53 different countries participated in this year’s edition, of which more than 200 were Korean. The winners offered an opera gala at the Liceu, which could be followed live on the Catalunya Música radio station. With the support of the Puig Foundation, the Tenor Viñas International Contest has become international.
